ABOUT ME
Mary Callahan (MC) Baumstark is from the mountains of Montana and has adapted "y'all" as a way of addressing folks.
She earned her BFA from the University of Montana in Ceramics with a minor in Art History, and an MA from OCAD University in Contemporary Art, Design, and New Media Art Histories.
After serving as an Adjunct Professor in Art History and Criticism at University of Montana-Western, Mary took over as the Executive Director of the Lewistown Art Center in Central Montana.
When she's not "art-ministrating" at the LAC - which includes curation, sales, fundraising, strategic planning, and programming - she's writing for publications like Studio Magazine, Studio Potter, and Fusion, usually about clay.
Mary is a prominent voice on craftivism in the US and Canada, and has given several lectures on craftivism and its intersection with luxury, digital theory, and feminism, particularly "white feminism." She specializes in working with collaborative artist pairs for exhibition development, writing, and curation, and offers complimentary grant writing to BIPOC artists that identify as women, trans, or non-binary.
Mary likes: coffee, craft, community organizing, and taking pictures with her mouth open.
